I read about that trick online and it didn't work when I tried it. I dunno if it's because it's an older model or if it's because the blu-ray drive itself is fubar. But then that wouldn't make sense because why would that keep the PS3 from even booting on.

That sounds about right. My first playthrough I did everything possible as I went through each area and hit the level cap right before I got to Alabastra. I did a second playthrough on hard mode, and only did main questline, and was level 24 by the end.

If they can somehow work ninjas into this DLC it'll be an automatic win.
