I’ve been in game development for close to three decades now. And it is absolutely true that we love to talk about our craft.
This is also super prevalent in the WoW community. Devs announce a new PvE raid: PvPers tell them to fix PvP. Devs announce PvP balance changes: PvE-ers complain that X class performs poorly in raids and should be fixed.
Yes. But I’m also proud of how much we’ve evolved over the years.
Been working on a franchise that has a decent following but hugely toxic fan base yes, our entire marketing was planned around manipulating the toxicity in the groups instead of being candid, because they can’t handle that and every time anyone of our producers says anything candidly, it always comes back post game…
My personal favorite of those is the art guy showing drawing a new concept art for the game and showing it off when he could be <insert development activity here> instead. Because the art guy is totally whats holding up resolving an engine level issue thats being worked on by an entirely different team.
I used to do customer support for a small Facebook game, and we’d try to be as open as possible with our players. It was a nightmare when we’d announce a feature was coming and it wasn’t out within a week. Constant questions about why it wasn’t out yet, and why it was taking so long. If there was a bug when the…
Biggest example, gamers who think “DLC” automatically means the content was removed from the main game just to make a quick buck.
if you want to gain easy rushing yards on your computer opponent, the Browns, Titans, Bengals, and Ravens all have playbooks with the Gun Monster.
I read Brokeback Mountain (years after seeing the movie) and it was one of the most beautiful pieces of short fiction I’ve ever read. The movie definitely captured the feeling of her writing, but reading the words and being transported in a way I didn’t expect was wonderful.
Worked in the video game industry for years. People think it is creative, and it is to a degree. But people should realize that you are creating someone else’s vision. Someone else makes the decision on design, on art. Even the most creative aspect, the concept art, still is taking orders from a higher up. If a person…
I have fabulous working conditions and still want to retire ASAP. Or have my own company where I get a fair share of the profits my work is creating for others.

Blizzard loves gimmick decks that spit in the face of the very mechanics they’ve created. We already have infinite cards to draw, infinite spell damage and infinite minions so why not infinite armor? Who needs balance after all, it’s not like this is a competitive game or anything...
Hearthstone’s dev team has made many many many bad decisions over the years of its life. Those decisions are catching up with them.
I was side-eying this dude from jump. I don’t trust any “men or women of God” who are dressed and groomed within an inch of their lives 24/7.
The game is pretty big without purchasing any DLC. It’s not The Witcher 3 big, but there’s tons to do with just the base game. You can easily sink 100 hours into it. It is worth the price of admission if this type of game is your thing.
There’s an oft-used mechanic in the game where you pick up a glowing ball and have to put it somewhere. If you’re in a group and you see this mechanic, don’t pick up the glowing ball unless you know what to do with it. Ideally, watch what another player does with it first. The game isn’t always super clear about it.
Have you ever tried to work with people that are ‘working’ from home when their kids are present? How about conference calls when someone’s toddler is actively sitting on their lap and basically talking into the mic? I don’t think this is a solution.
It is about time democrats grew some freaking ovaries and put forth plans and ideas instead of just rolling over and giving up to republicans.
