I see what you’re saying with the ignore it approach, but being accused of something like that is pretty damaging in 2016. Even if you ignore it, if somebody broadcasts that accusation online, you’re going to get a lot of hate mail, threats, etc, and most people will assume that it is true.

What is the proper response to that sort of accusation? I really don’t know, but I see why people might use that sort of statement.
