Mo,
Mo,
She did it right: keep your head until the fighting starts, and don’t react until you’re ready.
Assuming, of course, that some fat asshole didn’t already hit the 12 items or less line with a full fucking cart of crap.
If you have to reach so far in the bag to produce Norah Jones, maybe that’s the problem?
LOL @ the OP’s “Norah Jones was on SNL” as an example of Asian representation on SNL.
This is a pedantic argument. The only true “act” you can come up with is Norah Jones, who is multiracial. Yeah, you can say she’s of Asian descent, but saying she’s an Asian act is not a credible claim. None of the others are even arguably “Asian musical acts.” Pointing to James Iha and Kim Thayil is like pointing to…
Exactly! People can comb through 40+ years of episodes and find a handful of Asian folks. Fine. But now compare that to the number of white hosts, cast members, and musical acts. It’s easy to see why she feels underrepresented. Listing the handful of Asian folks who have appeared is derailing the bigger, more…
Yeah, maybe not technically correct but they’ve made a joke of how they never have someone who can play Sulu in Star Trek parodies so they’ve ended up using the same tech guy over several decades. That’s just pitiful.
She may not have been technically correct, but it’s not as if her overall point of the lack of Asian representation on SNL is wrong. The only two cast members with Asian heritage are not people most people would even know were Asian if they didn’t ready their wiki bio (Fred Armisen who is a quarter Japanese and Rob…
East Asian then. I always thought SNL could have had someone like Randall Park do very very well on SNL. Or heck, even Bobby Lee. Bobby Lee was killing it on MadTV.
This is so right. People are very afraid of sounding racist (both racists and non-racists), and somewhere along the line, African American became much more PC than black. I don’t know when exactly, but I do remember learning to specifically say African American as a kid and not black, definitely not black.
Yeah, it almost sounds a little like a dog whistle. I’ve met a lot of racists who will bend over backwards to avoid saying “black people” and then make a big deal about how “PC” they’re being.
I’m mostly annoyed by how inaccurate it is. Just like, with obvious basic facts. No, Black people who were born in other countries and don’t speak English are not African fucking American. Black does not automatically equal African American. How hard is that to understand?
I get what you’re saying. What I’m saying is that their casting and writing decisions were unnecessary. I’m not coming from a position of “black people are stealing my characters.” I had the exact same problem when they cast Angelina Jolie in a role that had specifically been designed for Hallie Berry (Fox). Besides,…
King has been very clear that this is not the original story but a continuation. He is planning on writing the book from the movie as a continuation of the series. Not a fan of either King or of the series, but the movie should be judged on its own merits.
There was no way they would have been able to reconcile the problem.
They could have had Eddie and Suz in some form regardless of race. They just chose not to.
1. White People will hate it
Rick is no kinds of “powerful.”
