Yep, I’ve been wearing “shackets” for thirty years or so. Most of them are purchased from the Eddie Bauer or Marks Work Wearhouse men’s sections, and they are perfect for in-between weather because they are softer than a jacket.  Also, L.L. Bean’s lined corduroy shirts are fabulous.

If Jeff Bezos took Nichelle Nichols into space, I would almost forgive him—but then I’d know that Ms. Nichols would have arranged some secret “hey Jeff, be a human for once” deal in order to do it. Shatner going into space makes me smile a bit, but he and Bezos kinda deserve each other.

I’d wear the coat. I won’t lie.

If you want some real fun, read Martin Rowson’s adaptation of The Communist Manifesto. It isn’t as good as his Tristram Shandy, but then again, Marx (who read Shandy) isn’t as good as Sterne.

You have a real point here. Personal stories might shift people whose minds are already at least somewhat open to the shift. They do nothing to people who are firmly opposed to it, and in fact a personal story in that case often just seems manipulative. It’s basic rhetoric. You adapt your appeals to audience attitude.

That’s a really good interview, and makes me want to have a glass of wine with Bronson Pinchot. Who’da thunk?

Also, he’s seriously Christian in a way that has always brought a whiff of sulfur with it.

Thanks Maya; it’s good to see you too. I’m glad you had data too—I can’t imagine all of this isolation without the ability to keep in touch with people. And now that almost nobody has a landline (and even the “landlines” are VOIP) it’s not even like you could reliably call people and chat.

Poison apple? What are you living in, Snow White? Dear lord (also yeah, watch what you put in your mouth indeed).

I find it so very wonderful to see cross-generation and cross-genre collaborations (including sampling-with-a-blessing).  It says something about the more established artists.  Also: very cool.

Poor wee Pepper—I’m sorry. I’m also constantly amazed by cats’ bonds with each other. Pink’s a sweetie.

I’m glad you’re back, and it sounds like things are a bit better (knock on wood of course). I’ve been hoping that you’ve been managing the pandemic okay, and dear lord, what a time to not have wifi. Suddenly something so, well, mixed in its value became a lifeline overnight. But yayyy for better meds and doing pretty

Sounds pretty familiar ;-).  But no damn fun nonetheless.

Hi Andy!  Here’s hoping things are well at your end.

It speaks volumes for how little I know the US that I used to think Pennsylvania sounded pretty nice ;-) . We’d get bits and pieces of local news/TV in Southern Ontario and it seemed like an okay place to be.

It sure as hell beats staying someplace for work ;-).

Oh yeah, I hear ya--more time with your SO is a reason to do everything.

Maya! You’re back! How are you doing?

God, I never think about Kate Bush, but whenever someone mentions her I realize that I really, really should listen to more Kate Bush. She’s a visceral sense memory. My roommate in undergrad was a huge fan, and while that roommate was a bit bonkers and we wound up thoroughly sick of each other, we started off as

Yayyy for all of the good things! Even considering that the apartment situation isn’t great, it sounds like a “good for now” thing, and the new relationship sounds lovely. Also, yayy for the HRT.
