When your engine starts smoking at 130k(ish) it’s difficult to determine how much longer the rest of the drivetrain would have held out. I’ve no idea how…

It didn’t have any of the legendarily reliable drivetrain bits from Dodge, it had whatever Suzuki had laying on a shelf. That is very arguably ‘not better’.
Less deserved than the Ford Exploder (because Ford chose the absolute cheapest tires they could find as OEM tires), there was nothing really wrong with the actual vehicle.

A decent used minivan is in no way expensive. If you spend more than 4K on one you are doing it wrong.
Given that our regular trash ends up spending the next 100 years sitting in a pile under some plastic yes, i agree that would be better than what happens now.

To be fair...they did kind of screw up many things for short term gains (not you personally, collectively by big business and the politicians beholden to it), you personally didn’t get a choice one way or the other.
Is it capable of being lighter? I agree that even a flipping Suzuki Samurai was a better off-roader (making this article moot) since this wasn’t a 4WD car. It was a FWD car with an optional AWD transaxle.
