having a shoe in your hand will not work as well as rubber gloves or latex. Also, shoes’ are usually quite dirty so I wouldn’t want to rub those around all my furniture. Gloves offer a lot more flexibility.

Rubber gloves cost pennies and can be used hundreds of time, if not more, before they need to be replaced.
