I had a bag misplaced on a transfer through Schipol a few years ago. I was very surprised about that as it was a 5 hour layover. However the airline (KLM, I believe) had my bag on the next flight and even had it delivered to my door at no cost.

As VashVashVash has pointed out already, most of your braking power is on the front wheel, and it is quite easy to do 80% - 90% of the braking with only the front brake so long as you know how to use it. Using the back brake to much causes the rear wheel to lock up and you wipe out if not careful.
