I think it’s because they are too slow and require players to read and pay attention. That’s not to say all players have that issue, games like 80 Days and Kentucky Route Zero did quite well, so I don’t know that adventure games are dying, I think they are changing.

Sometimes one, sometimes the other. It really depends. Mostly puzzles come from the story, but sometimes I think of a great puzzles and then work the story to include it. I mostly design puzzles backwards. I know the end result, then ask how to I get to the final step, then ask how I get to that step and keep going…
