Sadly, this isn’t what the hybrid will help with. It’s a HEV, not a PHEV. Since it’s not a plug-in, the battery (1.5kWh) is only big enough to help with short high-power events, not to assist with long distance anything. It allows for engine-off launching and regenning in city driving (where it will give the biggest

I agree with a bunch of this, but I would add/change two things:

Or my father in law with burgers. Everything gets cooked like its marinated steak tips: full blast heat for 122 seconds.

The International Harvester collectors have a “Red Power Roundup”, and it changes location every year. The number of tractors there is impressive, first of all. Also the number of fridges and milk seperators. And all of the Cub Cadets. And also the collection of M1 Garand Rifles made by IHC. But I’m always surprised at

This happened to the Model X that my company bought back in 2016. I think ours lasted a month in. One of our guys hit a speedbump and *bang*!  This has always been an issue with that car, for some reason.

Your username is amazing.  Keep up the good work.  I’m betting you’ll get to use it for a week before it gets perma-grayed, though.

And my god, the “Layla Saga” games “future” characters voice acting, script, and sound editing seems like it was done by middle-aged community college students making a scene for an assignment for their night class on “dramatic acting” with only 3 classes under their belt. It honestly made me ok with less of the

This gets into the whole shift in the game that others have pointed out. The old games had this overarching reminder that you’re in a simulation, so you couldn’t get ahead of yourself because they blocked off other parts of the map and saying “You haven’t unlocked that memory yet.” The later games moved away from the

Halo3:ODST is still one of my favorite quick games, even if howlongtobeat has it listed as 7hrs. I bought it at midnight on opening night and me and my buddy had it beat by 4am on Heroic. Ahh college, good times.

Another benefit of a clutch by wire system: adjustable pedal force curves.  Cheap version: change out a spring or adjust an orifice or something.  Expensive version: electronic force application that can be changed on the fly based on which driver is in the car or on the driving mode of the vehicle.  Some people would

If it makes you feel any better, I could have said something like “ Well, all y’all car manual drivers are wusses, with your synchronizers and light clutch pedals. Drive an 18-speed semi for a day, having to either speed-match or double clutch every time and see how you feel.” Or “Drive an old tractor with a

I worked on a version of this on an R&D project a few years ago. It’s really an issue around autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with manuals. Having AEB where the engine stays engaged increases braking distance. Also, you get the added benefit of stall prevention, clutch overheat prevention, etc. Also, just add a

You can also buy a cheap “HDMI to USB” converter, and use an HDMI to mini-HDMI cable. GoPros automatically output in “clean screen” mode when the HDMI is plugged in, so it’s pretty much set up for it.  Plus, then you can output in high resolution and still plug in the USB to charge it at the same time.  This can be

It depends, assuming it’s a BLDC as you said. There are 3 ways to get around this issue, but not by coil skipping. Coil skipping doesn’t really work because the coils will still interact with the magnets, even if you’re “not using them”. If you completely disconnect a BLDC motor while it’s spinning, you can literally

I gotta say that you’re most likely incorrect there. Hub motors for ore trucks are completely different than this in terms of use case and packaging. There is definitely not enough room for any gearing at all, and I expect it to be direct drive.

How I know you’ll always be an engineer at heart.

I don’t know why people keep linking to healthdata.org, which is from the #1 most left-leaning college in Washington, whose largest majors are Experimental Psychology, Communications, and Political Science. All they’ve done is regurgitate the raw data from the CDC and JH with no filtering or statistics.

Oh, they most definitely are locked into multi-year development cycles. Ford is releasing their “all new” F150 next month, which has been the same platform since 2015. They make small iterative changes very quickly (cost reductions, warranty issues, ease of manufacturing fixes, etc), and can push them through all the

Too bad the first Hybrid F150 isn’t a plug-in, so it won’t get that much of a bump in mileage. An HEV will help in city driving, but I am 100% behind getting a PHEV F150 if they eventually make one.

Yeah, even though these cars used up some parking spots, I never had problems finding parking downtown. When I lived in the Indy ‘burbs, I always enjoyed Indy downtown because it was never super crowded. I could drive my pickup and find plenty of spots to park it. It just wasn’t a city that needed a service like this.
