That's kind of the issue "Before you have kids you can read shit like this and think "that's awful" and then go about your day." <—- that's not true for everyone. It's also not true that everyone who HAS kids will have that pit settle in their stomach when they read this stuff.
I think maybe next time, simply be more careful about how you word things? I cannot have children, but I do have nieces, nephews, and god-children who I think of as my own, so stories like this hit me in the gut and haunt me, despite not having - and never being able to have - a biological child of my own.
