As if that is going to shut them up.

Seems like she’s trying to minimize Allens crimes and deflect. Not that she isn’t right that more women should get work, but it doesn’t have to be either or. We are capable of both demanding retribution from Allen and giving more women chances.

I thought this part was annoying:

I agree with what you have said. In November she gave an interview where she said she turned down certain types of work when she was younger to avoid being “objectified”. If she was so cognizant back then of garbage pervy directors, are we really supposed to believe that she had no idea that signing that petition was

She was in her late 20s–perhaps her mistake is less easily forgiven by that point.

I agree. I keep reading these apologies that are more about people excusing their self-interested choices than understanding there was, and is, a real problem with supporting other artists or industry insiders come hell or high water like this.

Lets drag a woman who is owning up to her mistakes. She apologized move the fuck on.

If Natalie would have just apologized, that would have been great! but then she kind of went on to say that the one thing she learned from supporting a rapist was “i have more empathy for people who accidentally support rapists” lol cmon natalie.

10 years ago she was in her early 20s, now she’s married and a mom of 2. I’m sure her point of view has changed. I relate to her saying her eyes are open now. That sounds legit. You are forgiven my child, now go forth and don’t be an asshole again or we’ll have to revisit this transgression.

I think you’re tired and maybe misunderstood Sailor V’s comment- You both think Natalie is saying the same thing. Whereas you might be more sympathetic towards Natalie, Sailor V isn’t having it.

I don’t think she’s saying she has empathy for Polanski.

And to all the creeps who will inevitably say: “But she forgave him!” So what. That says a great deal about what kind of person SHE became. It says ZERO about Pokanski either then or now. The victim has never stopped insisting that her version of events was true. And Polanski’s confession actually matches in most

To the rape apologist whose comment I just cheerfully dismissed:

Yeah, but his “spin” boiled down to saying the girl was pimped by her mom*. In what universe would that make any sane person say, “Ah! Well then, no big deal”?

Thank you for dismissing the “but she forgave him” excuse. It was “The State versus Roman Polanski”, not “Samantha Geimer versus Roman Polanski”. Once charges are filed, the state comes in to take over: many victims of intimate partner violence “forgive” their abusers in an effort to get charges dropped - either out

True, so true, but for years Polanski has been spinning alternate versions of events. A lot of these people pretend to have been somehow duped or confused by this (Whoopi “rape-rape” Goldberg springs immediately to mind).

Honestly all they should need to know is Roman Polanski convicted child rapist.

The thing I feel like I gained from it is empathy towards people who have made mistakes.

I remember when that petition was making the rounds. I did something completely crazy at the time - because I didn’t know the exact details of the case - I actually READ both Polanski’s confession and the victim’s statement before expressing an opinion. Nuts, right? I mean who has 10 minutes to spare?

Everyone realizes how sick this is, right? RIGHT? Holy shit we really are in the mirror verse
