So it freezes indefinitely? Like Windows never gives you a blue screen crash message? I've had some Windows 10 crash messages that I've ignored because the fix involved flashing new mobo firmware or something and that's a hard pass from me unless it's absolutely necessary. Just had a sub-200 Eevee break out of a razz + great ball + great throw. I have two 400+ in my inventory from before the update. I threw 3 of my 8 great balls at that Eevee and it ran away on the last throw. I'm level 18. I'm getting closer to giving up on the game.

Just dump your recovery items. There should be a trash icon on the right side of the screen when you pull up your item screen. It’ll give you an option to select how many you wanna trash. I trashed 25 revive yesterday.

I caught a Snorlax. I was driving to work, still in my neighborhood. I only had like 5 balls when I saw him and I caught him with my last ball. It was epic.
