Are these pictures taken from the visible (to humans) spectrum of light or infrared? I thought that these amazing images of the galaxies are more like renders; computers interpreting what the image would look like if it was capture in the visible spectrum.

That is a deceiving angle; it is in the middle of a piazza but it is very near the town center. Check out Orvieto on Google maps; they have a nice street view of the surrounding area.

Actually it is the Cathedral of Orvieto. If Wikipedia is to be believed; Santa Croce and Il Duomo di Orvieto share a common architect.

That is the Cathedral of Orvieto. Orvieto is a great little town (maybe a bit touristy) that is a nice place to stop on the way to Rome if you are driving North (Milan/Venice/Florence) to South (Rome).

Eh. I like my cathedrals like I like my women; Italian.

Eventually the western span will need to be replaced. I'm no engineer, but it seems like it would have be prudent to build extra capacity into the eastern plan, knowing that sometime in the future the western span will be updated to match.

Without gathering any evidence of any kind, i'd be willing to bet all my Star Wars toys (Except BobaFett. No matter how sure I am, I never risk the Fett man) that the giant size mayonnaise sold at Costco kills far more Americans each year.
