Meh. That’s the same logic VW attempted when ‘negotiating’ fines. “You can’t fine us too much! Look at all these jobs we’ve created in the US.”

Yes, I’m aware of that and I see your point. It’s a shame because the lower rung workers seemingly did nothing wrong, as did the dealerships, part suppliers, etc, but a company that has had such blatant cheating at the top will not get my dollar if I can help it. Hopefully the auto market is large enough for innocent…
I’ve got a pre-cheating 01 Vw TDI and will not buy another Vw after this one croaks. The car has been extremely reliable through 300K miles, but I don’t want to support such a company.
real talk: i have a friend who runs a sustainable clothing start up and they pay fortune magazine for press about them. fortune magazine is an advertorial. elon musk calling attention to that isn’t him being cranky - we like elon musk because he reminds us of the tony stark we all want the world to have: vocal CEO of…
I’m sure the lack of interior appointments is a big money saver. The drivetrain and underlying systems have essentially been paid for already. The less interior bits they have to design specifically for the model 3, the better in this case.
There’s basically no chance I would have gotten my custom spec’d Model S new for $55k in 2013 if Tesla had dealers. I could have sold it for a significant profit over a year after driving it.
They’ll be called “Trump”, because they’re famous for bright orange paintwork, and they spew poisonous waste wherever they go?
We’ve had a bunch! Check out our own rave review from racer Robb Holland too: http://jalopnik.com/tag/bmw-m2
To your second point: so they're just like every other car fanboy out there. Got it.
You’re right, we should ignore one of the biggest car stories of the year. What was I thinking.
FRONT 8/10
Yeah, ditto. Jalopnik in general has gone to shit (and not just because they demoted me to a grey commenter). FA and Black Flag are pretty much the best sub-blogs they have going. I also enjoy The Garage with Tavarish occasionally, but it’s not as good as I thought it was going to be when they launched it.
Why would use a shitload of electricity to extract energy for another source and create hydrogen while you can just store that electricity directly in a battery ? It’s just as silly as making fuel from corn.
“Hydrogen is a wonderful fuel. It’s clean, you can put it in a tank, and the technology to make hydrogen cars is already here. The only real reason we’re not all driving hydrogen cars right now is because there’s a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem. No one’s driving hydrogen cars, so no one wants to build the hydrogen…
yea i never have even heard of Chris evans before the new TG
LeBlanc may be a has-been (I’d argue otherwise), but Evans is a never-was.
The least interesting top gear presenter who has nothing to offer aside from wealth and a Ferrari collection was opposed to the addition of the most entertaining presenter who is actually good at driving and is much more famous? No way.
Well, they haven’t actually fixed anything yet, and right now all the execs are still playing the “deny everything” game as far as taking responsibility for the fraud. So yeah, I’d say there is still plenty to protest.
I think anyone that owned a VW and saw the value drop 15-20%+ and was offered a tiny deal on a new car might still be miffed.
This is easily the most interesting thing that’s ever happened at any auto show.
