Sweet Tooth is a blind spot for me. Latter day Vertigo as a whole is kind of a blind spot for me, and I should really rectify that. The only thing I've read in full from semi-recent Vertigo was Scalped, which is friggin' great, so it's not like I've seen some sort of drop off in quality. I just started giving more…
I'm all for both the numerical identifier and a subtitle. Tell me a bit about what the movie is going to be about, but also help me to know which movie I want to watch if I want to watch the first (or most recent, or third) movie in the series. Mission: Impossible is doing it! I enjoy the Fast and Furious movies as…
Am I the only one who misses just simple 2/3/4/etc…? I'm getting old; I can't keep track of whether "Dawn" comes before "Rise" or whatever.
It's fascinating that it either doesn't appear at all, or it's in like the top 3 for the ballots for which it does appear. There are a couple of exceptions, but for the most part, it's at or near the top of the list, or it's not on the list at all. My wife can't handle watching it at all; it's too stressful for her,…
And also that it's not meant necessarily to indicate the relative value of any given movie individually, but rather to be able to show how few movies pass this low bar in relation to the overall number of movies released.

Most of the Alien shrieks in Aliens are essentially very sped-up and processed elephant trumpets. Once you hear it, you can't unhear it.
I actually got my dad - who still mostly feels like comics are for kids - to read through the first trade when he was visiting back in May. I told him "Hey if you like Walking Tall, you should give this a shot", and he polished it off in about an hour or so. He enjoyed it, and if it could break through to him, it's…
Part of what amazes me about Aja is that between the Iron Fist run and the Hawkguy run, he's sitting on a LOT of pages. Maybe one day he'll change his mind, I guess.
Yeah, agreed. It's obviously something that he's thought about and made a decision on, so - more power to him.
It probably is paced a bit better for trade reading. The world building in that book is just so well done. Not THAT far removed from being plausible - sort of like the best episodes of Black Mirror in that regard.
Yeah, it drives me a little bit crazy. I have a semi-respectable bit of original art framed on my walls, and I would KILL to get some Aja art. Doesn't do any cons, really, either.
I know it's hard to recognize books that aren't new and are just continuing consistently excellent work, but Rucka's Lazarus continues to be underrated as far as I'm concerned. It's my favorite of his ongoing works, edging just past Queen and Country for me, which puts it high in my pantheon indeed.
Ah, glad to see that there's a reason behind that. It's right up there as my favorite thing that's currently in print.
Lemire's superhero work has largely left me cold, but his more slice of life type stuff - Underwater Welder or Essex County - hit me right in the sweet spot.
My one and only regret about seeing his wife and kids in Ultron was that it closed off the possiblity of doing a true Fraction Hawkguy movie (or show). MCU Hawkeye has his shit too much together. That said, I was happy to see MCU Hawkeye have his shit together, too.
Fraction's Hawkguy is my favorite superhero (?) book of the last several years. Warm, optimistic w/o being Pollyanna, and just plain fun to read. Also - with the layouts in the Pizza Dog and Deaf issues - showed me that things could be done with a comic book page that I didn't know could be done. I would give a lot…
For Christmas, my mother-in-law asked my wife and I to put together a disc of instrumentals for her to play at the Chair Yoga classes that she teaches. She didn't want much well known classical or jazz music, but also not stuff that was too driving; idea was to be something nice to listen to during class that wasn't…
Guess who's got two thumbs and this playset and all attendant figures sitting somewhere in his storage unit?
