Very simple, Sega does not own the rights to the franchise (total blunder on Sega's part). Platinum is getting ¥¥ from Nintendo (and do not have publishing muscle). And Nintendo saw $$ sign in the franchise and went after it.

I am a Nintendo fanboy and completely understand the nature of 1st party mentality that has been the strength of Nintendo for decades. But you must understand that even Nintendo realizes they can't use that strategy forever.

I still don't know what to feel about Nintendo's next gen machine...
