Why do you assume that something like this has to be done under taking resources away from other side of development?

sorry. I've been hearing this excuse since early 2000. If the hardware is limited, than go for the art direction that suits the limitation that stil gives characters more life (probably more on the cartoony side).

It didn't have the same level of polish their other games had... For example... Okami had amazing level of care and attention that was so obvious.
although I love Vanillaware so much, I have to say the gameplay is a bit on the mundane side. Muramasa was a lot better but it's still plagued with meaningless weapon upgrades and what not...
