Being gay, wearing a short dress, being in an interracial marriage and getting an abortion are all ways of being or choices that do not and should not affect anyone else.

The point is that people get genuinely, deeply offended by many things, but that doesn't always justify banning those things (which was the original point made by minxymaxx1).

It's going to be really difficult to change that. A very good indicator of the moral state of a society can be found in the swear words it uses.
