I'm thinking everything that Voice did is soon going to be rolled into Hangouts. Hangouts already does MMS/SMS, only a matter of time before it can use your GV #.

Google Voice, you're really looking lame in 2013. No MMS, no encryption, no threaded messaging ... you only win for letting me send texts over Wi-Fi and your web interface.

So true. You, good sir, are exactly right, from my vantage point.

Ditto. I can't believe these corporate shills didn't bother to mention micro sd cards and removable batteries. Remember the days when tech/gadget/gizmo sites were all about innovation and options and not forcing people to bend to the will of Landru? I am not of the body and never will be.

I'm only getting a phone with Micro SD card slot, which severely limits my options.

Not to endorse piracy, but pretty sure you could torrent that in an hour even with a crap connection at starbucks. Hell, if you don't want to sit in a starbucks for an hour, park your car near one, jump on wifi, close laptop lid (keeping it awake though), hide laptop in car so it is not stolen. Go shopping at another

Better yet, install a PC at their house that records Cable TV to your hard drive and runs torrents. that way you can maximize the evil.

I'm starting to think the best investment I could make would be to just buy a ton of forever stamps, put them away, and then sell them in 30 years when I'm ready to retire lol

You can go ahead and flash with Cyanogenmod as they support OTA updates now. No reflashing once the new version comes out.

look guys, I found one!

I do that exact same thing using Talkatone on my ipod touch. It registers itself as a Google Chat service so incoming calls come to it and you can converse via bluetooth. In fact, the ipod 5 has a mic and you can use it as a phone without the headset.* Handles outgoing calls easily, including texts.

For the record, the resulting file can be anywhere from 200-250mb, depending on the show and commericals, etc. Most of the time it is about 230mb. This can actually be adjusted in the MCEBuddy settings, just change your max width to a lower number.

To record shows, I'm using my almost 3 year old Windows 7 laptop and Windows Media Center with my TV tuner and antenna. The lastest version of MCEBuddy runs in the background detecting the folder that the records (.wtv) end up in. It is set to MKV Normal Quality with Comskip turned on and my max width is set to 720p.

I've been recording OTA TV shows (and movies when they are on) with my TV tuner and Windows Media Center for a little more than a year now and loading them to my home media server (running Plex) and watching it on my TV with a Roku.
