I am saddened by what your family endured, under Nazi rule. Nothing like that should ever happen anywhere.

Oh my friend...you’ve got to see some of these things. The protests of the “police state” we live in...when in actuality it would be incredibly difficult to freely protest in an actual police state. Or the incredible irony of organizing your protests against big tech companies by using Facebook and twitter. But, it

I'm curious about the "good things" he did. I guess he did improve the economy for people who weren't German but aside from that there doesn't seem to be anything. I actually read some good books by Phillip Kerr about a man living in Germany during the Nazi regime that seems realistic.

For what it’s worth, I took your comment in the tone it was intended.

Her comparison is ridiculous and too many Americans don’t know what life was like under Nazi Germany. This isn’t your father’s America. So sorry.

Is WW2 education that bad in some US states? Or can anyone explain?

Sorry, our public education system is breaking down and we barely learn WW2 these days.

It’s not, but the thing is, reading about it, seeing videos, etc, only goes so far.

Yes. I am sure we will all confirm the state of american education is pretty much screwed. For background: the guy who thought he founded our country thought he was in India and called the natives Indians and it went downhill from there.

Your point is accurate. There is a pandemic of hyperbole in American discourse. You can see it in regular citizens’ speech, in some of the commenters on Gawker (check out the comments to this post!), in a lot of the commenters on Jezebel (they do a lot of “sobbing” etc. that they didn’t actually do), and you can see

Wait, so you were sarcastically suggesting that she be arrested for the comparison to nazi Germany as a critique of your current restrictions to do the same? Why didn’t you just say so? lol.

A few years of German and a trip to the the Österreich taught me the English stereotype of the Teutonic lack of humor is a lie. I found sarcasm & cynicism to be well developed. However, a dry sense of humor is easily missed in text, nicht war?

Perhaps this is an opportunity for you to broaden your perspective. While you might believe that she is being overly-dramatic, in the grand scheme of things, her words are very relevant to what has happened and is happening in the US. Some communities, especially those of color, have repeatedly experienced police

Everything to Millennials is LITERALLY HITLER.

I apologize on behalf of my fellow Americans. Their belief in American exceptionalism blinds them to all rational critique. Because of the sorry state of education here they have no idea you can be arrested for espousing nazism in Deutschland, so your joke sailed over their dense little heads.

I want to take this response and the comment that spawned it and hang it on my wall. Absolute perfection.

“I did it once, but I think I got away with it!”

Protesters do in fact use hyperbole pretty frequently, as do most Americans. I wasn’t under the impression that that was untrue in Germany, but I could be wrong.

Hail Hydra!

I’ll admit that woman made a pretty stupid statement, and the state of the American educational system is fucked, but goddamn, I’m tickled pink to read a comment from a German who, without a trace of irony or self-awareness, states that he wants someone arrested for saying what she thinks. Great shit, man. Thanks for
