My wife grew up in rural Maine. Forget the deer, the moose were the real danger. She has really well defined “deer-dar” and will tell me she senses deer and sure enough, it normally isn’t long before you see the tiny bits of eyeshine in the woods.

Edge case? Are you f’ing kidding me? A deer is by FAR the most common animal you could hit which could ruin your day (and your car). Yes, I believe any Toyota/Lexus (hybrid) is using the tried and true ecvt planetary gear-set design. Much more robust than a belt driven transmission.

Can confirm that my Highlander Hybrid with a CVT has 292k miles on it and gets driven almost every day. The CVT is a bit laggy, but otherwise it is fine.

The Ford Maverick seems misplaced in this list due to it using an ecvt with a planetary gear set similar to a Prius setup. No belts like the other models that are known to be weak and unreliable. The setup in the Maverick and Prius should last the entire life of the vehicle with very minimal service.  Well, at least…

My business is driving to places. Many, many, many clients. Multiple clients per day. I probably spend at least as much time driving to sites as I do actually on them. Please do continue telling me about how things which do not fit my lifestyle really fit my lifestyle. Continue to explain, man.

Well its not that funny, having to haul less fuel improves mileage too. Less dead weight to haul around. Suspect it would most benefit city driving vs highway, not that highway would get no benefit from less weight.

Unless it can be charged in the same time as I fill the gas tank of a regular car, then I need to cover all the miles I do in a work week +Saturday fun stuff. That means a thousand miles actual, not as marketing copy. It isn’t range, it is recharge time. I don’t want to be shackled to a charger for longer than I have…
