I wonder how you got to be an expert on my car.
I wonder how you got to be an expert on my car.
Do they make bearings out of silicon bronze anymore? I thought that stopped at the end of the Silibronze Age.
My first car was an ‘82 Mustang with a ‘78 Grand Marquis straight six Frankensteined into it. Oil pan gasket eventually went, and it cost more to replace than the car was worth, so I just ran it without oil...for almost two years, and 40k miles.
Anyone want to bet that the Hertz employees were smoking on their break, and smelled the smoke on their own clothes and not the car?
Yep. From the ‘70s “Nifty Fifty” to the ‘90's dot-com bubble (anyone remember when AOL was going to own everything? No? Too young? Get of my lawn, you whippersnappers.) Now FAANG and the “gig” companies of the late 2010's-now. There’s an investment bubble every couple decades where everyone decides fundamentals no…
Hey, I’m white, and that’s still not even my America.
Weather is usually considered an “act of God,” legally.
Because every time they try, people start screaming “But the Earth is 70% water!” and they get into a turf fight with NOAA.
The difference is that Pelosi’s joke was actually a pretty good joke.
One has to wonder when the century-old sewer main is going to need replacing anyway.
1) It absolutely matters what he wants. He’s the one pulling someone over. As long as police aren’t “policing,” but “enforcing,” that’s how it’s going to work. Do what the cop wants, or you get maced, tazered, pitted, or shot.
I actually agree with what she did. I just happen to acknowledge the cop has a different point of view.
That is literally what they want you to do. As I said somewhere else: when they’ve put their lights and sirens on, they’ve made the decision that it is safe for them to stop you at that point. And police will follow you with lights and siren off until they get to a stretch of road where they believe it’s safe to pull…
From his perspective, he was ignored. She didn’t pull over for two minutes. Source: cops who’ve threatened me for doing just that.
The cop was well within his rights to be pissed off, seeing as, from his perspective, he was basically ignored by this woman for a couple minutes.
I wonder if something similar, albeit less dramatic might happen as a result of this pandemic.
Cop shows are certainly part of it - I know to many people in the states who ask “Why didn’t the cops do...?” about situations where the answer is simple “Because that’s only what cops do on TV.” (“Shoot the gun out of someone’s hand” is an obvious and particularly egregious example.)
Of course she’s white. If she were black, the cop would have shot her for instigating a chase.
When an officer wants you to pull over, they want you to pull over immediately. If they’ve turned their lights and sirens on, they’ve already judged the conditions safe for them to make a stop, and do not want you to exercise any judgement. If you refuse to pull over, then it becomes a pursuit, and they may decide…
