I have never enjoyed a regular Darklord. As for BA variants, I have only had BA Vanilla and regular BA. Vanilla was tasty, albeit sweet but I have a vanilla bias. The BA DL was meh. DL is a quintessential Hype beer and there are too many good stouts and BA beers to waste my time with it.

Perspective. Pliny is very obtainable in Norcal... and on tap in many bars across California. You cannot say the same about Heady.

What IPA did you drink and how old was the beer? Even the best IPA's will taste awful if they are too old or have not been stored properly.

1. Sour beers can be incredible. The Russian River sours are tart without the warhead like intensity.

Darklord is one of the worst beers in the world. Sugar, soy sauce and diabetes disaster.

Chico King tasted very similar to SN Pale Ale... but worse. 3F makes great hoppy beers, but I have had Darklord many times and it's always an awful, sugar bomb of diabetes. If you have the chance, try Permanent Funeral from 3F.
