They probably didn't want to renew his contract because he was asking for more then they could afford to pay him. Sony is trying to tighten it's belt since it's hemorrhaging money and it now has junk bond status. Hell analysts give it a 49% chance of going bankrupt down from 79%.

Hopefully he will fix the problems the Vita is having right now (In America at least).
