I raise you E46 vanos failures, rod bearings, bad synchos and torn chassis sheet metal in the rear subframe. The color is really horrible but the spirit is in the right place. I think the Cayman is better than the FRS/BRZ OR the M3. Then again it costs twice as much as an early E46 M3 too.
The Scion will be more reliable, cheaper to repair, and come with a warranty negating the cost of most repairs in the first three years or 36,000 miles.

I had a stone stuck in my WRX caliper once - awful noise, but it wasn't too hard to diagnose. Still, probably not the fault of the Mazda design - I'd imagine it could happen to anyone.
