It's incredible how incompetent and ass-backwards Nintendo is when it comes to online. For every two steps the seem to take (which also take 10 years to do) they take one back. You don't have to with the PS4, and the only reason you have to with the XBO is to remove the DRM. It's not normal...the updates are required if you want to connect online, which makes sense, because the online portion of a console is continually changing, and it's fair of them to expect that those wishing to play
