Not really. No. The Fiero had been hamfisted since its introduction and by the time they got it right, nobody cared. Lifting suspension and such from the actuation as well as pretty awful engines and issues wth maintenance (dealers were clueless) killed the fiero.

Check the CPO market for the MKZ. You can find them dirt cheap. Mine stickered in around $52k and I got it for less than half of that with under 30,000 miles. So I still have warranty AND the CPO coverage.

It’s more than just CO leaking into the cabin. This is a pretty well documented issue with the Explorers. CO is leaking in along with other exhaust fumes (which gives you the smell).
So long as you leave their favorite cassette in the tape deck and your pack of parliaments within their reach they are fine.
This is actually a pretty well documented issue with civilian owned explorers. Fords current TSB IIRC is spray some foam or sealer on something (pinch weld? Joint? Can’t remember. Too early).
