Xampp/etc, and look at the recent favourite text editors for each OS. Some people find the builtin apache and php a bit lacking in OSX, you can upgrade them but unless you need something better than 5.3.4 then you can just use what you already have.

Lack of jarring adverts is a big deal. If the remote is still in your hand, on a nice channel (that splits up the program and adverts perfectly into chapters) then you can be away from the drama for as little as half a second. Which with Law and Order, is the same as the DVDs.
