Does this apply to British shows, have any of them gone on too long? I can't think of any, even ones since cancelled.

If you're in the UK (or get in for iPlayer) look at Radio1's Chris Moyles and Scott Mills, and Radio4's Friday Night Comedy (which is only one of four or so comedy series worth listening to on radio4).

It's power related, but this could be several things - smaller arm chips, more efficient arm chips, quicker recharging batteries, smaller batteries, more efficient gps/3g/lte/wifi/graphics, or just plain longer charge in a battery.
