Getting old rules.
Getting old rules.
No, this is a commonly held opinion among the old guard of black music industry icons. Ike Turner was vocally dismissive of the British Invasion bands as well.
He’s 85, he’s been keeping his lips zipped for a long time.
This is bananas and I’m here for it. Someone get this man an XM station and a podcast.
As a history nerd and archivist, Drunk History is amazing. It’s remarkably accurate, I actually wish there was a way for people to submit story ideas (I personally have a bunch). I also wish they would release a bibliography of sources for each episode that the storyteller can recommend. Derek Waters, if whatever…
This interview was so fucking great. The shade, the gossip... amazing!
One of my favorite people gave her baby girl Uhura as a middle name. Which I LOVE.
I’m a historian and I do history docs that run on PBS, and I LOVE Drunk History. Because the number one problem facing history and padagogy is that there isn’t enough sense of fun. History has so much about it that is outrageous and hilarious, and it doesn’t all need to be given the overly reverential Ken Burns…
“He takes a shit on The Beatles. (“...They were the worst musicians in the world.”) He takes an even bigger shit on U2:”
“No, I am Martin Luther King I have no chill” is the message these MLK revisionist need to hear. Also I went to school with a girl whose parents name her Nichelle because of this show.
The funny thing about Drunk History (aside from it being funny) is that I actually learn from it. And retain that knowledge! I wish I had Drunk Earth Systems Science in college. I would have gotten a much better grade.
I love this show so much. Is there a way to watch it without a cable subscription? (I’ll admit I haven’t tried that hard to find it and I’m very possibly overlooking something obvious.)
same.
“What was the MizJenkins debacle?”
They didn’t start well. I once emailed the site editor about how appalling I thought an article Tracie had posted was (it was about how “annoying” she thinks men with eating disorders are) and the editor actually CC’d in Tracie so they could both yell at/talk down to me. I didn’t read the site for YEARS after that.
I can’t remember the exact details but basically MizJenkins was a commenter who disagreed with or criticized Tracie Egan Morrissey in some way so she banned her from commenting at all (this was pre-kinja so the system was different). It’s been almost ten years so I can’t remember what the fight was about but I went…
Buzzfeed even mentions a piece from Gawker’s Brian Moylan written in 2011, in which he instructs patrons on how to view all the nudity in Sleep No More, and admits to grabbing a performer’s butt.
Does this air before or after The Good Place and is there any relation to The Good Doctor?
Flop or not, that “bon apetit” song was everywhere and it only makes me more annoyed that I had to hear it even though no one liked it. Who were the radio stations and bars playing it for???
This isn’t quite what she’s saying, but creatively speaking, near-disastrous tanking has been really good for my work. Not because I can then “relate,” or whatever she’s going on about, to the plebs, but because hanging on to old ideas or methodologies was creating increasingly stale work but I was too chickenshit to…
