Although Dalton wasn't cast in The Great Escape I’ll always consider him The Coolest Kid.

Fortunately, both Marcia Lucas and Polly Platt are well represented In Peter Biskind’s Easy Riders and Raging Bulls. In the book, Marcia Lucas remembers she thought Star Wars was kind of kiddie stuff and expected Scorsese’s New York, New York would be a bigger hit. In early 1977, that didn’t seem too implausible.

Perhaps he’s volunteering for testing on a Propecia alternative.

This. Very sorry for Mackey’s family and loved ones but I just scanned for a Shorter obit/tribute. Nothing yet.

I would argue Dean is not that good in Giant. Strutting grievance in the first act, drunken grievance in godawful age makeup in the last. Overall, Jett Rink is a shadow of Dean's performances in East of Eden and Rebel.

Right. The link is to a Quadrophenia GIF with Davis as part of the dance to "My Generation."

Good on Chalky.

Didn’t expect to see him here, but Otto Wernicke’s Inspector Lohman featured in both M and Testament of Dr. Mabuse. If The Third Reich hadn’t compelled director Fritz Lang to flee Germany he might have built a franchise around the character. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0023563/characters/nm0921532

Surprised there’s also no mention of Jeremy Brett who was considered the definitive Holmes in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes for British TV (and PBS in the US).

The Batman serial on now was made during WII, so there are Japanophobic slurs and characterizations. TCM rotates these serials on a regular basis and will likely later show another Batman made later in the 40s with different actors playing Bruce and Dick, the latter looking like he hit the gym whenever possible and

Sorry not to see Shere Khan from The Jungle Book. One of my favorite George Sanders performances.

Odd that On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is still among the best Bond movies despite Lazenby. Diana Rigg is Bond’s best match ever, Telly Savalas is arguably the best, at least most purposeful, Blofeld and John Barry contributes his best Bond score. Not worthwhile, essential.

But we can still be uplifted and inspired by the life journey that is “Young Rock.”

I’m sorry the judge didn’t also rule that any and all references to James Corden must be followed by “... of all people” in perpetuity.

Lou’s cover is great, despite his tendency to end a song by repeating the title over and over. I still don’t think it was necessary to add the rock songs. Badalamenti’s music has stood alone in so many other Lynch films. Maybe Lynch wanted to make some soundtrack money.

I just watched the Criterion blu ray of Lost Highway. Badalamenti’s score didn’t date, but the ‘90s alt rock sure did.

I’ll own the fact I can’t be objective about Pattinson. He irks me for no good reason. Still, he always seems overly mannered and reticent. He takes chances, though.

The Pattinson I like and respect is holding the cup:

Ugh. A derivative thriller starring Robert Pattinson is never a good thing. I’ll be processing Bong’s headscratching career choice for a little while. Pattinson continues to seek acceptance as a serious actor but will achieve barely incremental results. The taste in projects is there but not the foundational talent.

There is no policy documented, but these dalliances likely created a toxic environment where crew could bring no complaints against Holmes’ reportedly hyper diva behavior to ... the producer or anyone else in charge. I’m sure GMA didn’t want to make an embarrassing situation worse with a mutiny by those who make the
