John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter thought it was.

There the sky is glass, the sea is brown, and everyone is upside down.

Edward G. Robinson. He actually did pass shortly after filming that scene.

MM4: Does Your Mama Know That You’re Out of Ideas?

You write ”Squanders his gifts” as though Denzel had the luxury of selecting more substantive, challenging roles. I don’t think there are too many available for middle-aged actors in the age of blockbusters and remakes, no matter how accomplished. Actors have to eat and feed their families too. So he’s Michael Caine fo

You’re all giving me a sheer heart attack.

Ray Manzarek is rolling in his grave.

I would back that up to Draw the Line in '77. Everything from Night in the Ruts on is the sound of grey matter slowly disintegrating.

Fucking up Van Alden’s character arc on “Boardwalk Empire” is where it really began. That and all of “Vinyl.” But I’m just projecting my deep disappointment with both shows.

“Treefingers" is an automatic demerit for Kid A. Pure studio noodling pretending to be Ligeti's "Atmospheres." As filler it's slightly better than "Hunting Bears" on Amnesiac.

It's OK to add Station to Station or "Golden Years" to this list.

More lazy stoner than stupid. Great song, though.

The song “Cat Food” by King Crimson. It’s a good song, easily the best thing on their second album. But it’s tough to be in the mood for a song with a title that reminds me of my Torti's bad breath and Ralph Wiggum.

No. The one where the sanctimonious husband on a prize trip to Vegas becomes addicted to gambling while being stalked by a slot machine that keeps calling his name. Not considered a good TZ, but I enjoy it.

Thanks for the TZ tip. Since SyFy opted out my daughter and I have been programming our own mini marathon via Netflix and the DVD box set. But since Decades is in our channel lineup we can let it do the work while we get ready for guests without distraction. Watching Everett Sloane melt down on “The Fever” now.

Haven’t lived near a Del Taco for 25 years. But I still think wistfully of their beef burrito with a side of krinkle fries and hot sauce for dipping. A simple pleasure more profound than any mozzarella chalupa monstrosity the Pepsico “food” developers franken-fuse for Taco Bell.

I can't believe Bez didn't get a mention in this piece. Call the cops.

I like the longer versions of “Ghetto Defendant,” “Straight to Hell “ and “Sean Flynn. “Walk Evil Talk” is Topper’s “Moby Dick.” But Strummer was right to take the mix to Glyn Johns for editing. Combat Rock is a flawed album, but it has a focus and energy that gets lost in Fort Bragg.

I saw Strummer at the Showbox in Seattle touring for his first album with the Mescaleros. Peter Buck was there, but when I whispered to a friend before the set “Look. there’s Peter Buck” he overheard and hightailed it to the bar, presumably to be left alone. At that same moment, Strummer walked in the front door of

When I was 13 (many, many years ago) I decided to watch all of a 24-hour horror movie marathon broadcast by one of the syndicated TV stations between Friday-Saturday night. Most of the offerings were pretty non-threatening - lots of Universal classics mixed with Roger Corman Poe adaptations and Godzilla-Rodan dustups.
