Glad Full Metal Jacket is high on your list. Although it’s not top 5 for me I think it’s very unappreciated - especially the second half. Between the (awesomely) manufactured set and the repeated allusions to what the soldiers expect war to be like, I think it’s less Vietnam and more sheltered post-WWII kids playing

I like Strangelove most because it’s conceptual-yet-lean. Jacket comes close to striking that same balance but doesn’t include stellar performances by the likes of George C. Scott, Slim Pickens, Sterling Hayden and, of course, Sellers.

You seem to really like the collaborations with James Harris (Killing, Paths, Lolita). Cool enough, but Killer’s Kiss over Shining, Barry, Clockwork and the Jacket? An interesting opinion. A fan of resourceful filmmaking using limited resources, perhaps?

It’s number 8 on my list, but I enjoy it more with each viewing (a la Barry Lyndon) so it might reach the top 5 in time.

“My analysis returns to the password Fidelio. What is the significance of this word? Does it underscore the real theme of Eyes Wide Shut- maintaining marital faithfulness while navigating a dream world of carnal temptations? That is my assessment, borne of skilled intuition and winking puckishness worthy of a

That also my favorite Dead of Night segment. All praise Googie Withers.

Yeah, I realize that now. Fair enough. Time to listen to my burned Spooky Sounds CD and think about my brash response.

Now playing

I saw the 1972 Tales From the Crypt way too young and never forgot the “And All Through the House” segment. Didn’t quite put me off Santa Claus, but it made it tougher to sleep soundly on Christmas Eve:

It’s one of Teddy’s costume options for Bob on the “Full Bars” ep. Oversized T-Shirt with an image of the monster sporting sunglasses. I’ve asked for a reasonable facsimile for the past 3 Halloweens. Maybe I’m not understanding what makes Cher-iff more of a thing than that.

Maine has the highest concentration of velvet budoir painting galleries in the US.

It’s good, but not Summer Frankenstein good.

Fassbinder would have been capable, although the result would have been an epic existential breakdown overseen by Hannah Schygulla that also paid tribute to Douglas Sirk. On the other hand Fassbender is not capable.

Loco-Motion was also used well in Inland Empire.

They’ll ignore. Look at the intense humiliation Jeff Sessions endured so he could continue to use Justice to find ways to roll back civil rights and disappear uppity minor (and minority) offenders into private prisons. Pence and the religious right will endure whatever Trump dishes out because it’s their best chance

Fun fact: Keith Moon of the Who was a huge Sha Na Na fan and emcee’d at least one of their concerts ... in drag.

But not necessarily with the support of white nationalists and others among the 30-40 percent who support Trump no matter what embarrassing bullshit he spews. So much of their motivation derives from making life hell for liberals and people of color, not governing. Pence, Ryan, McConnell et.al may be duplicitous,

I thought it was about getting them to shut up. I don’t think anyone expects to change their minds. Nothing ends the argument more quickly than knowing you have to actually back up your bullshit.

Fact or Factoid: Norman Mailer wasn’t at all obsessed with anal sex.

I remember Valerie Bertinelli’s character was obsessed with Elton John, Pat Harrington’s building super seemed to be in the wrong sitcom, McKenzie Phillips was distracted and Bonnie Franklin always seemed nonplussed-to-annoyed.

But credits at the end have brought us so much - more room for entourage, staff and accountants on the Special Thanks list, a place for the new Chainsmokers song anchoring the soundtrack, and a way for basic cable stations to use a second screen when transitioning between features. Imagine how much better movies like
