At least he’s found an outlet for his proclivities.

Shouldn’t they be more concerned about how a sensor failure could disable the brakes than whether or not the radio was used to receive advice (that got him back to pits safely?)

This gets my vote for the same reason. I volunteer as a marshal at a racetrack for a local club and I live for the respect that the racers have for each other and love hearing the post-race chatter from both the marshals and racers. Some of the stories swapped over a few drinks in the evenings are just incredible -

My ‘83 Corona had a ball-cooler vent under the steering column and I never realised it until the day I drove it wearing boxer shorts.

One of those lives somewhere near me and it’s goddamn beautiful.

Your kids will share your passions while they’re young, but will ultimately choose their own way. Show them the value of passion so they can learn how to develop their own healthy interests. Discuss the merits of a manual swap with them and you’re not just teaching them about cars, you’re demonstrating a decision

You could live in a kei car if you wanted to...

This is one of those times when free is still too expensive.

Draggin’ Jeans are what I wear. Australian made. Some styles you can’t even see the seam where the kevlar lining is. They look just like ordinary jeans so I don’t have to change out of them when I get to work. There’s a video on YouTube of testers getting dragged on their backsides at speed wearing them.

Because M12LRV is too hard to say in conversation... son.

You’ve just jogged my memory - at one time there was also a camera embedded in the road that looked out of a small glass window so the cars literally ran right over it. It was just past the dipper so you could clearly see the cars get air under left side wheels. That was one of my favourite angles. Some of the ideas

It was no fluke - supercar drivers are renowned for their precision, not just while driving either.

They also pioneered trackside microphone pickups that would record the sound at the place where the camera was pointed, so you heard the car that was in the frame no matter how far away it was from the camera without interference from cars closer to the camera that weren’t in frame.

It’s a public road so you can drive it, but the speed limit still applies, so there’s nearly always a speed trap near the middle of the main straight. Oh, and it’s two-way, so a car can come at you at any moment around those blind corners at the top of the hill. It’s a hectic drive.

Motorcycle performance is affected by so many different factors that the idea of the bike being subject to inputs I’m not making is pretty unsettling.

Many good examples of the Subaru BRAT/Brumby can still be found in western Queensland/NSW. Because of the dry climate, they don’t suffer the rust issues and they were a popular light-duty ute that could handle poorly maintained roads. Incidentally, in Australia a Brumby is a feral horse, so to our ear the name is
