Yes, I do think that attempting to lay claim to an entire continent with your meta-ethnic identifier is wrong.

Hell, "Oriental" at least clarifies that you mean East Asian, rather than trying to apply a monoethnicity from Istanbul to Tokyo.

All I know is that I found their horrible, toxic relationship, and the depths of Gus's shittiness, very compelling TV.

I think that they make it pretty clear that they're terrible for each other (SPOILER) in the finale, when (SERIOUS SPOILER) Mickey talks about how she needs to be alone for a while to figure herself out, and Gus responds by ignoring everything she just said and kissing her.
