Funny bit but your cynicism (if I'm hearing you right) is misplaced. There was nothing reductive about this show's treatment of motivation and ego and morality. It was 100% idiosyncratic, ambiguous, volatile and in the gray. From start to finish.
Wasn't clear at all. Literally it was the epitome of ambiguity. That's why it was so perfect. In those last twenty or so shots, Chase made the viewers inhabit the same fear/paranoia that the Sopranos family was doomed to live in permanently, and in fact had always been living in.
