what situation would you ever need them to think you havent read it... now a days everyones phones are with them at all times if i send a text message i have a pretty good idea they have seen it wether or not i have the READ receipt I dont need that to confirm it

okay one fo your concerns is that you're worried about forgetting to text them back... well you can still do this notification work around without the read receipt except now you dont have to worry about accidentally reading their text. And you say you don't want to reply right away but what does it matter if you are

all of youre points still make no sense with the read receipt. and no its not more of a gurantee DELIVERED means that the message has showed up to the other persons phone so you have a pretty good idea that they have seen it.

youre joking right... so you dont want to type "Ok" but your willing to only view your messages through the notification center and if there is a text that you really dont want to respond to yet you have to worry about accidentally hitting the SMS button and showing that you have read it

there is a message delivered option in imessage...

or just respond saying "Hey ill get back to you soon"?

i got an idea. why not turn the feature off and now you don't have to worry about that....

i would get annoyed if I called someone and I knew they deliberately ignored my call which is essentially what they are doing when you see that they have read the text and not responded for hours. Everyone that is saying we are egotistical for wanting an "immediate" reply is jumping to conclusions, if i text a friend
