I had to look that up just to be sure, but I remember my dad having a NeXT software box. No idea what it was, but that was probably 92ish for the x86 he got. That was about the some time my parents separated so it’s a little fuzzy.
I have never been able to decide whether to be happy or sad that I missed that era in computing.
The funny thing is it was probably an honest price if he was selling today, and low if he was selling a couple years ago at the height of the auction craze. But that was 18 years ago.

It’s not mechanical, it’s analog. Mechanical would be with a wire spinning in a tube going from some sort of gear in the transmission or wheel to the back of the speedometer. You have an electronic sensor which transmits data to either the cluster or pcm which then displays the speed on the speedometer.

No reason they couldn’t run in tandem with trains. If the whole thing is autonomous anyway the car could enter the tracks when no train is present, exit where it needed to.
