Again Museum for African American History is not equal to museum for American slavery. It’s kinda insulting to suggest that black history = slavery. I really wish the commenters would stop saying that’s what the new museum is about. Do some research!

Wait! There’s a distinct difference between a museum dedicated to American slavery and a museum dedicated to African American history! We have a museum dedicated to the Holocaust but not to American slavery. Black history is about much more than slavery.

blah

No. They worship it.

Is it federally funded? I think that’s the point the OP was making. It’s wonderful that private citizens and groups are creating these museums. It’s just embarrassing as hell that our government isn’t.

There is a world of difference between display and glorify.

Yeah, you’re right.

United Federation of Planets at my place. Pisses off the locals because they think it’s the UN flag, and then they get even more angry when they realize I’m a lib’ral and a fucking nerd!

I agree with you. But they way it’s being done puts it on a par with the Old Glory flag in the Smithsonian. Same level of honor and prestige. Plus, adding all the names of the dead traitors...I mean, Confederate soldiers...gives the thing a memorial feel. As if they are a country seperate from the rest of the U.S. and

I assume the OP meant dedicated solely to the issue of slavery and not the total African American experience.

Oh I missed that part about the new wing. That flag is a powerful object that could be the focal point of a display telling important stories about both historical slavery and its legacy today. Somehow I get the feeling it won’t be played that way. (Disclaimer: I’m not from America so I hope I haven’t put this in an

Considering the ram shackle places that usually fly that flag they should just get an old double-wide trailer for their new wing and save 3.85 million.

But Mary Jane, that’s its one true destiny! The most honorable moment in that flag’s history was when Sherman wiped his ass with it.

I'm assuming the 3.6 mil is to build the new wing? Because obviously that flag can't just be added into the museum as it is, oh no, it needs a whole new wing dedicated to it. Worshippers of that flag need a house of worship, after all.

The Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati is the closest I’ve ever seen. The first time I went it took me hours and hours to get through (and even then I didn’t see everything). The written accounts of slave experiences, being inside a compartment on a slave ship- these experiences have stayed with me for

I work at a museum and it doesn’t take $3.6 mil to install a fucking flag, but then you don’t need me to tell you that because anyone with half a brain could work that out for themselves

Bless that man. I have nothing but admiration for what he’s doing. But it doesn’t change the sad fact that we don’t have even ONE federally funded, government museum dedicated to the history of slavery in this country.

And traitors too, don’t forget the glorification of traitors. That is what the Confederates were, traitors to America. They committed treason, and should be grateful they were not subjected to real punitive measures. They, like ISIS and AQ, declared war on America. That is what that flag represents in addition to the

I wouldn't even wipe my ass with it.

The United States: A country without a single public museum dedicated to the history of slavery, but numerous museums and memorials dedicated to the glorification of slavers.
