Magneto is a fabulous example. He saw evil, lived through it, and only wants to protect his own kind from being wiped out, as was done to his own kind before he knew he was a mutant. He is the liberator and hero, as much as he is the villain.

As much as I thought the movie was incredibly mediocre, General Zod in Man of Steel falls right into this bucket. His entire race is on the verge of extinction, in his mind, he's trying to save the kryptonian race, at the cost of a planet of lesser beings, but he has one goal in mind and its the right this to do from

PERFECTION!

On my oversea flight back from my grandmother's funeral, I ended up smiling and laughing for the first time in a week when I discovered that the bank of films shown in the little personal screens included Mulan. Loved that movie before, but it's taken on a whole different level of adoration now.
