It’s strange I haven’t watched it yet as I studied WWII in the Pacific in college. As such, I can already anticipate how the scenes showing the invasions of the islands might go down.

Was The Pacific any good? I loved Band of Brothers, but never got around to watching The Pacific. I believe I’ve heard from “yeah, it’s okay” to “pretty good”.
Is this a Righteous Gemstones podcast?

Narcs.
The book does not have a happy ending. It’s more open-ended, but way more bleak, I think. In any case, maybe the movie ending could have worked, but definitely not in the hamfisted way they tried. It just felt like they did it different for the sake of doing something different.
I’ve seen him say he likes it, but I don’t know about “prefers”. I’ve still wondered how true that is though, like he’s trying to be supportive of the filmmaker or something. It didn’t seem like a clear, ringing endorsement, but that’s pure speculation on my part.
