Thank you for explaining it. I had to google maps 801 9th St in DC and believe it or not there’s a newer model SL 320 on street view!

LOL. Near “the Mint.” I giggled.

Just poured in some gas and fired it up huh?

In countries outside of the U.S., it absolutely does!

I was just in Turkey, and there were lots of TOFASes with Cadillac badges glued on!

Once the butt of countless jokes, it’s certifiably cool in the U.S. these days.

There’s some depth to this joke, since SEAT used to mostly make everything out of FIATs, including the 127 and 128 which were the starting point of the Yugo.

The interior looks odd. Usually all the black has come off the buttons or has turned in to a sticky mess, but the airbags aren’t scrumpled.

Once you get past 40ish most of those things stop to matter and you just grab the pretty things while you still can, and prenup.

Don’t disagree with you except for the “relatively wealthy” part- A tour at the boat is approx $10. The starting price of the hotel rooms are $75 a night. Super affordable.

Isn’t it already a hotel?

A T2 is in a whole different category of slowness and crudeness compared to a Vanagon (unless that Vanagon is a diesel). And this Vanagon, with some useful power from the upgrade and a new trans, will scoot down the road nicely. And the ride quality on Vanagons is typically fantastic.

A scary ball coming toward you?

That is a good parallel Japanese Cordoba, although no fine Corinthian Leather. Should have said I received a question, I actually can sorta remember the sunroof was standard, confirmed with the attached advertisement.

I say this every time an old Japanese car shows up in this segment for more than any sane person would pay: As an owner of a well preserved (but not mint) ‘78 RWD Corolla 3rd gen: They are all as awful as any car from that era.

Yeah they did. This was the Japanese answer to the Chrysler Cordoba.

rare != valuable.  slushbox and too much money even if it had the stick.

Can we talk about that instrument cluster though?

I genuinely love early 80s Japanese imports (see: my frequent posts about my 1982 Celica.) BUT. This is just too much money for what it is, and the nail in the coffin for me was the auto transmission.

Especially since the Pontiac weighs just 3150 pounds, meaning that 5.3 swap is just a cam swap away from 9 lbs/hp. Some DOT drag radials on steelies up front and you could irritate a lot of guys who think they’re fast.

TIL: There is a publication called “Pontiac Enthusiast”, which is apparently the market for this project. ND
