Porsche assembled the Mercedes-Benz 500 E because it was too wide for the regular W124 assembly line.

Yeah, weirdly some of the earlier years had both.

I mean, it was fun to drive and my dad could attach a trailer to it. But when you make $11 an hour, gas is $4 a gallon, and you live 30 miles from work (and the Jeep couldn’t be relied on to not overheat during the trip) ... it was just a poor value proposition.

I actually did a similar Cash for Clunkers trade to what you described- a 1996 Jeep Cherokee (2 doors, vinyl seats, got all of 12 mpg) for a 2009 Nissan Versa S hatchback (1.8l engine and the conventional automatic transmission). No regrets. It’s not great in the mountains and the ride is a bit bumpy, but it has had no

Faster than my current car.

I’ve come to the realization that a Cash For Clunkers Nissan Versa is a second or more faster than a good chunk of my fleet.

Maybe so, but you go to an Ivy as much to make connections as to get an education.

Inflation is purely a function of greed. Broad, act of god, market forces rarely affect inflation.

Gold has no value other than we accept. Nothing backs gold’s value except belief.

Income increases have NEVER been the cause of inflation.

The main advantage of Harvard and the like is having class mate’s whose dads can get you an internship at a Fortune 500 company.

The way this guy thinks the world works, we’d see massive inflation at the beginning of every year after millions get their bonuses for the previous year, or after tax returns.

Send out checks to everyone—more money supply—so there’s less value. And we get inflation—only an idiot couldn’t see that effect coming.

Sadly Skoda prices are creeping up but still slightly lower than VW and a bit lower than a similar Audi. I love that Skoda make a better looking and more practical car and sell it for less than VW and Audi.

As a Czech living in the US now, I think this is the first time ever that Skoda has been mentioned. Would love to own one here, but VW decided to only offer their boring lineup. :(

Yeah, I not sure that near luxury is a needed place any more. Today’s base models are pretty luxurious right now. I think it comes down to style.

From my experience, people take their car into a shop when a light comes on. An oil change light, a low tire pressure light, a check engine light etc. Nobody knows or cares if this is miles, conditioning monitoring, etc.

Congratulations you mastered self defence 101. Defend self, not stuff.

Before last week, it was a 2nd gen Viper. Since last week, it’s been my wife’s new Tesla Y Performance. I used to be a sponsored drifter, and have been a stunt driver for film production, so I’ve driven some scary fast cars in scary ways. But the Tesla’s performance combined with the fact that so many of them are

Back in the ‘80's, my uncle had a 1970 GTO with a 455. I was just a little kid in the passenger seat as we cruised down the interstate toward some long-forgotten destination when, quite unexpectedly, the throttle dropped to the floor and the big 455 roared like a Saturn V rocket trying to escape the planet. My uncle
