That’s a disingenuous argument, and it’s exactly the one that corporations want you to think is the one that matters.

It is amazing that even inteligent Americans fail to realize the points presented in this post.
Uniforms, regalia, and iconography aside, it’s interesting just how universal the ideology or way of thinking discussed by the video actually is. For instance, we can draw direct parallels to American society. It’s a society that professes to greatly value veteran status, and sees military service in its politicians…
Sounds about right, but there was no ‘war’ to lose, per se. The humans were invaders who werent attacked by the bugs except when they landed on one of their planets. The attack on Buenos Aires was obviously staged, or maybe even a natural disaster that their planetary defenses ignored. Earth had become a military…
The part you’re missing is that you’re just wrong about the book. Yes, Heinlein was smart; many terrible people are, but he was not examining fascism and the militarization of society, he was quite unapologetically advocating for it. If you read his personal letters, you’ll see that he very much believed society…
If you read Heinlein’s personal writings you’ll find that he very much did condone it.
You are quite unfamiliar with Heinlein if you think the book was satire. It’s quite reflective of his beliefs.
You are not the target audience, anymore. You haven’t been since you turned 13. Toei/Saban wasn’t making the series for you.
That Heinlein would have hated is the entire point; he became an unapologetic fascist.
In my head canon, the film is an artistic product from within the United Citizen Federation late in the war. Which they’re losing so badly, even the film makers have to at least allude to some realities—lest even their wants-to-believe audience decide it’s all impossible nonsense from top to bottom.
You could argue that maybe at times it is attempting to criticize aspects but that’s only if you examine his work in a void.
I’ve thought about that ever since the idea most anti-fascist media end up making fascism look cool crossed my path. Stuff like American History X just doesn’t work. Neo-nazis reportedly bought tickets and left after the first scene. You can stop a kid with the inclination from growing up into a fascist by showing…
As I grow older, that Heinlein would have hated it becomes more and more of a bonus.
People are angry at him for this, but that’s not exactly how the situation played out. The film started as an original property called Bug Hunt at Outpost Nine, and an executive gave it the title Starship Troopers because he felt it was similar enough and would be more marketable that way. Pre-production was already…
The movie is a great satire of the really bad book .
It’s an incredible movie and the book is shit.
I’ll never understand the people who saw this and only saw a straight action film. The satire is still great.
To be fair, it was a dumb-ass book.
That’s acceleration, not speed.
