For the general consumer, however, having the app store in place makes the platform more secure and stable than allowing any random app from any source to be installed.

Apple absolutely could do more than nothing in this matter....but that wouldn’t help their bottom line, so nope.
I do not care so much about Apple’s sales in China; that corporate income gets taxed in Ireland, not here.

Ice picks aren’t spiky enough. Try barbed wire wrapped around poisoned fence posts.
So basically chickenshit.
“Facebook engineers panic, pull plug on AI after bots develop their own language,”
In this case, the only thing the chatbots were capable of doing was coming up with a more efficient way to trade each others’ balls.
‘Net neutrality’ sounds way too much like ‘level playing field’, which is obviously communism.
Yep. They know that a free and open Internet can enable agile upstarts to challenge and beat ossified incumbents, no matter how well-entrenched. They did it themselves once upon a time, and want to make damn sure history doesn’t repeat itself.
Um. No, they’re not chickenshit. They’re the current winners, and they want to lock themselves into the winning slot while they’ve still got the money to fend off any pretenders.
This is also Seth McFarlane that we’re talking about, who more often than not produces juvenile, misogynistic and homophobic humor; so yeah this show is most likely geared towards straight males in that college age range.
I do find it really odd that people misunderstand Seth MacFarlane so completely that they think he is anti-progressive. On the contrary, he’s so progressive he’s actually able to — GASP! — joke about it. The horror!
io9 seems hell bent on declaring Discovery a failure and to be perfectly honest, it’s infuriating.
I’m a fairly modest Star Trek fan ( a Star Trek well-wisher?), so I say this without personal investment, but given how frequently this site has begun relying on the editorial voice: “We’ve seen x,y, or z and it’s perfect/will blow your mind/is just stunning”, it’s fascinating to see any earnest-seeming attempt to…
I think I’ll skip Orville, because it looks like EVERY other show MacFarlane makes: Schlubs acting sexist, women that are shrews & plenty of gay panic jokes.
Abrams can at least make a fun movie with fun characters
I actually disagree. Star Wars is a sprawling fantasy epic. It’s Lord of the Rings in Space. These movies make more sense in November/December.
Is anyone else worried about Trevorrow as the writer/director for the “last” Star Wars film? I mean let’s face it, the direction in Jurassic World was uninspiring and the the script deeply stupid.
Well. Okay. I kinda liked having them at Christmas. Summer is full enough as is.
