There is always the idea that by sharing your good acts that you are encouraging/shaming others into doing good acts of their own.

In most of the cases, I don’t doubt folks did something nice. But I’m not going to pat them on the head for it. Hell, even Jesus addressed folks who actively do ‘good’ things where everyone can see and he was not having it.
