I feel like that was the point re; Ward. I think the show has thrown out any sort of redemption arc for him at this point and it was reaffirmed for me with the flashbacks, and his actions in the present. The only thing that he'll sway on is his loyalty to Garrett, which has been on thin ice the past couple of episodes…
