I use notepad a lot for basic text logs. I don't need it to do much more than it does. But, it is very annoying in Vista and Windows 7 that when I close the program, the mouse Snap-To does not work by jumping the cursor to the default Save button. (The Snap-To feature works in XP, so I didn't need to replace notepad

@naisanza: I use one of these too. Great keyboard in dim light conditions and it has excellent key action too.

Unlocker works great for me in XP and Vista.

I start my day checking my work and personal emails at home. Then, after checking my work phone messages, I read news on-line, and check Facebook, and then go about my day - all before breakfast.

All the tech support from the company isn't worth a hill of beans if the notebook is a piece of junk to start with. Research first.

Just google the filename that shows up in the BSOD. Most of the time it is a faulty driver -> so either roll back or updated it.

The ribbon takes up too much space. I like a few commands, as in the current toolbars, that I use all the time to be available in a slim toolbar. The screen space should be for your work, not for the controls.

Logitech Trackman Wheel, as pictured by other submissions. I've been using this since it came out and have bought others in case they discontinue it. Great for everything, including gaming.

Vista for beginners has a great post on how to move your user folders to another drive/partition. Note, if you are using the new Windows Mail program in Vista, you should probably leave the Contacts folder where it is.
