Half-Life and Warcraft 3 mods invented entire genres. Skyrim is certainly not the most mod-friendly game in history, though it’s great that as usual it’s getting the usual Bethesda level of mod support.

On its original PS1 release it got poor reviews, because it was essentially a 20 hour storyline dragged over 100+ hours. The game actually required grinding (an accusation people make a lot, but actually fits here - you had to run in circles fighting a bunch, a LOT), and just felt horribly padded. That, and the…
Not quite meaningless, but yeah, for smaller stuff it’s not likely to get challenged. On a supposed big budget movie, it would probably get shut down before it ever reached that stage in order to avoid national embarrassment.
The biggest giveaway that this was all a bunch of poop is that Charlotte Purin/Pudding is a super minor, arc-specific character from over 1000 chapters into the series. One that’s featuring currently (and so is popular and trending online), but would in no way feature in a movie version.
“You know what a good Pokemon game for adults would be?”
Shin Megami Tensei.
“There really isn’t anything inherently childish about the Pokemon games other than the fact that it came from a manga/anime aimed at kids.”
Ehhh, the games are pretty plainly kids games even if adults can enjoy them too (like a good Disney…
I recognise a lot of those actors from previous films where they’ve overacted painfully - like 20th Century Boys.
I suspect this trailer sells the film pretty well because we only hear the orchestral stuff and don’t have to witness the terrible acting the film is likely to contain.
On the Chinese Steam store, it’s 390RMB (about $59), so I assume sales might be at least partially driven from there.
The Motorcycle Diaries also positively portrays lepers, as far as I remember.
I remember FFTA2 mostly as a testament to bad game design. It took systems that had worked well individually in other FFs (learning abilities from equipment ala FF9, selling enemy drops to unlock equipment ala FF12), and didn’t notice how badly they interacted.
Basically instead of the more freeform manner in which…
This video sold the setting, the premise, the atmosphere, and the mythology of the game in a few tense, gripping minutes. You had your ‘character’ in the trailer trying to perform an awful deed (as you saw it) and yet you still rooted for him somewhat (out of self-preservation, perhaps?) against the hunkering…
Lost Odyssey did a half-and-half. FF10 style continuous map locations, but when you got into a transport like a ship or an airship, then you would travel through a World Map screen.
How about the finally-after-three-years shipping of Kingdom Death: Monster, one of the first boardgame KS projects to break $2 million? The rulebook was kept secret the entire time, and now people are finally seeing whether the 17lb huge box (RRP $400) is worth all the money and hype! But in any case, it did actually…
“an even worse title”, Suikoden? It’s the same name as one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. Suikoden/Shui Hu Zhuan/Water Margin. Do you also complain about the names of classical Greek texts?
Intent is not God! It’s fine to use such terms when in company that you are familiar enough with to know that they’ll take it the way you intended, but with strangers online? Not a great idea, there’s huge potential for offense.
While you’re right about new IPs (not the most important thing in the world), the FF7 remake is more like Ninty announcing Metroid Dread. A game people have waited for and salivated over for years, actually finally coming true. Though the last time I remember Ninty pulling one of those it was the Golden Sun 3…
I dunno, it was pretty average, honestly. A quick license-heavy phone-in ala the LOTR MOBA on consoles a few years back. The characters deserve better (and hey, Injustice was great, so I guess they got it already). Love of the characters just wasn’t enough to elevate a subpar MOBA.
Heroes of the Storm, LoL, and DotA 2…
Yeah, while in gaming you can never say never, it is extremelty unlikely. These HD ports are minor amounts of effort to produce (and usually outsourced to teams whose main job is to do them), and much cheaper than an actual ground-up remake. Let alone one with the extra content and clever twists the original REmake…
Nice try, Capcom
Now they just need to do a real, actual remake of RE2 in the style of the REmake and all will be right with the world.
There are great modern Japanese movies. Just... typically not manga adaptations or idol-stuffed blockbusters.
A few acclaimed, excellent films of note: Departures/Okuribito, Adrift in Tokyo, Nobody Knows, Zatoichi (2003)
